The SCANDAL Sound

I absolutely love the soundtrack to SCANDAL. When it comes to music, I'm an old soul, and the choices for the show are amazing. In this section, I'll post YouTube videos of the weekly selections. Under the song names, I've included links to the albums on Amazon so that you can download your favorite tunes. I'll update this page on an ongoing basis.

  1. I agree!! Im an old soul as well! When I heard Johnnie Taylor's song in one ep I was like, "What?! Ok!" I live in Mississippi and was brought up listening to blues. Speaking of soundtrack, have you picked up on Fitz and Olivia's theme music? I LOVE it!!

    1. Thanks for reading!

I'm from Memphis, Home of the Blues, so Johnnie Taylor gets played at many family gatherings. We owe much of that title to all the blues greats who migrated from MS. :)

I have heard their theme music. I might post it later.

  2. It's so weird, when I first started watching Scandal I thought the music was out of pace with the action, until one of the last episodes when they played Nina Simone during a sequence and immediately I was transported in the emotion of everything I was seeing. I can't remember the sequence, but there was so much sadness that I was overwhelmed, and it's TV so I am not used to being overwhelmed!

    1. Are you thinking about the end of "Spies Like Us" when Abby is crying and confessing to Olivia and Harrison is moving into his new office? That song was "I Think It's Going to Rain Today."

I'm working on season 2 sounds right now. I plan to have it posted this weekend.

I think the music fits perfectly. Much of it comes from the era of "blaxploitation" films. That was the first time large numbers of African-American actors had leading roles that weren't mammies or sambos. That's a great complement to Olivia Pope's status.

    2. The music does fit perfectly and you are right about what it says about Olivia's status and ALL African American women.

I look forward to you posting their theme. Its played so many times throughout 'Happy Birthday Mr. President,' when Liv is having those flashbacks. The scenes where they confess their love gets me every time, especially when she starts sobbing in the closet. Thursday cant get here soon enough!
